Why is this survey important?
Hearing loss is a key risk factor for the development of dementia. Also, many people live with both dementia and a hearing condition. Hearing conditions include hearing loss, tinnitus, sound sensitivity, and balance problems.
Living with both dementia and a hearing condition can create many problems. These include problems with communication, problems getting an accurate diagnosis, and problems getting suitable care.
What is the purpose of this survey?
We want you to tell us your main concerns or questions about dementia and hearing conditions. This will help make sure that future research focuses on the areas that matter most to you.
Who can take part?
Everyone aged 18 years and above can take part. We want to gather views from:
- The general public
- People living with mild cognitive impairment or dementia
- People living with hearing conditions (e.g., hearing loss, tinnitus)
- Members of the Deaf community/people who use sign language
- Supporters (e.g., family carers, close friends)
- Health and social care professionals
Who is organising this survey?
This survey was created by people living with dementia and/or hearing conditions, their supporters, researchers, and clinicians. It is part of a project by the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre, Alzheimer’s Research UK, and RNID. It follows the methods of the James Lind Alliance for setting research priorities.
What is involved if I take part?
Taking part is voluntary. It involves completing this survey about your priorities for future dementia and hearing research. It will take approximately 10 minutes. You do not have to answer every question.
What will happen with the information we collect?
Your survey responses and details will be securely stored at the University of Nottingham in line with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and only for the duration of this project. You do not have to provide your personal details if you do not wish. We will only use your details to contact you about the next part of the project, and we will not share your details with anyone else. We will store your details separately from your responses. Your details will not be linked to your responses when sharing the results of this survey.
If you have any questions or you would like the survey in a different format (e.g. Larger font), or you would like to share your thoughts via another method (e.g. Focus groups).
